A Ministry Is Birthed

Anita Kiger from Dover, Delaware had the vision of a gathering of women in the community from all denominations and races as a result of her leadership role as Women’s Team Leader in October 2006 for the First State Fallfest, a Steve Wingfield Evangelistic association event. She was asked to organize a women’s gathering several months prior to the October crusade to generate excitement among the women of her community via a women’s luncheon. Having been inundated with luncheons, the Holy Spirit gave Anita the idea of organizing an elegant evening event that would glorify the Lord as well as give women a wonderful night out.

Having personally experienced the shame, embarrassment and exile similar to the Samaritan woman in John 4:1-42, Anita wanted to draw on a theme of Sisters At The Well. Kris Dotson, a committee member, came up with the title for the event, “Meet Your Sisters At The Well”.

The Holy Spirit has placed a burning desire in Anita to lead women to the living water of Christ to learn their true identity as righteous, beautiful, holy, saints of the living God. Having been freed by Christ from the shame of a rebellious, sinful period in her Christian life, Anita's heartbeat is for women to find the same freedom so they may no longer feel that they are not worthy to claim their positions as daughters of the King.

The 2006 event was a huge success, where over 500 women attended a gala evening at the elegant Schwartz Center followed by a book signing and reception in the ballroom. The event hosted an inspiring national speaker. As Anita encountered many women throughout the following months of the August event, she was asked the same question over and over, “Will there be a 2nd annual Meet Your Sisters?” The Holy Spirit kept giving a resounding YES! As she contemplated the magnitude of organizing such an event, separate from a State Fallfest committee, the Lord told her that there was no need to be burdened by the expense of a national speaker, that there were women in her very own community that had a story to tell.

It's true, all women (and men) have a story. Stories of heartache, victories, healings, triumph through adversity, recovery from addictions, walking through the other side of sin and many, many more waiting to be shared. It's the heart of Meet Your Sisters At the Well to find the women that are willing to tell their stories in order to inspire and encourage others who may be experiencing the same struggle.

Consequently, every year this community event will continue and speakers will be invited to come share their stories that glorify our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Along with these speakers, will be other women gifted in other various forms of the arts to partner and bring about an incredible evening that will uplift, inspire, encourage and unite the sisters that have gathered from all walks of life.

Anita Kiger’s passion for women discovering their identity and desire for churches to unite as one body of Christ is the purpose for Meet Your Sisters At The Well.

Anita resides in Camden Delaware along with her preacher/evangelist/guidance counselor, husband, James Kiger. She has 2 children, 1 son-in-law, 3 step-children and 2 grandchildren.
